Understanding IT opportunities and risks determines the future of your company in an IT driven world
For the end-user, the focus is often: “I want to solve my problem quickly now with as little time investment as possible.” For the providers of software, cloud platforms, and “apps,” the focus is on selling their software product, but not necessarily on a long-term support relationship that considers a global perspective for your company. Often, a solution is quickly chosen without it being entirely clear what the actual core problem is or whether all requirements have been considered globally. This regularly leads to only suboptimal results, sometimes with counterproductive effects elsewhere.
Cheap solutions that cost you a lot
At the latest, when an additional user comes on board or when data needs to be transferred from one system to another, the first problems begin. The initially “simple” solution quickly turns out to be a wrong decision that can cause many costs and, in the worst case, even damage of a legal or financial nature. If you suddenly need the data in a different context (e.g., accounting instead of customer acquisition), it is then duplicated with great time and effort. In the long run, you become entangled in a web of duplicated data across various systems that can no longer be untangled without the risk of data loss or massive time investment. If you have relied on a cheap provider or a company in a different legal jurisdiction, it can quickly happen that you can’t access your data, whether due to a change in the business model, the provider’s bankruptcy, or legal changes in the international environment. It is often easier to bring data into systems than to migrate it out again. An initially “cheap” solution scales poorly, and after committing to the provider, you end up paying more with growing usage than you would with a different solution.
There is a better way!
A structured, planned approach to solution-finding helps here, and there are standardized methods with which I can help you avoid such mistakes. I do not sell products myself and can therefore, unlike the marketing departments of software providers, stand by your side impartially and help you make the right choice for your situation. Even if it might take a little longer and cost a little more at the beginning, you will recoup this in the medium term and create a secure, stable foundation for the success of your digital strategy.
Here, I can help you with my many years of experience in project management and the implementation of new systems and applications. Using proven templates, we can analyze together, for example:
- What is the actual core problem? What are the risks & opportunities?
- Who is affected, and what are the needs of the various stakeholders in the business process?
- How do I manage the transition from one solution / process to another?
- What are the requirements for a solution, and how are they prioritized?
- What solutions are available? What are their advantages and disadvantages, and how can they be made comparable?
- How does the solution fit into a potential comprehensive digital strategy?
- What data / system standards exist, and how do I retain data sovereignty?
- How do the changes integrate into a system for data backup and recovery?
- How do I plan for resilience if the system is unavailable? How critical is the system?
- How do I document the changes and train my employees?
- How do I plan the implementation and create a cost and time budget?
Of course we can agree in advance on the scope of the required help and what you would like to deliver internally. For example, I can provide you with templates for preparation and then only organize a workshop. Or we analyze specific aspects in detail together with your employees. Even if you just have an occasional question and simply want to reflect briefly with an “IT person” for an hour, that can certainly be arranged.
